it was an experiment they did with black kids, and showed them 2 dolls ,one black one white, they asked the kids which was the best doll and they ALL said the white doll, and the reason they gave was because it was white.I am truly shocked and upset,i cant beleive this is happening in 2007.Did anyone see the show and what do you think?

Well if you think kids are confused, what do you think of the adults that act the same way

Funnily enough, a few years ago I took my little girls to a toyshop and allowed them to choose a Barbie Doll. Much to my surprise, they bickered over the black Barbie.
Curious, I asked why they both wanted that one and they both replied: She's got the pink bikini!
So that is sad. What a pity.
Been thinking about this - maybe it is because white people aren't so defensive - we never give a second thought to the colour of our skin - other than trying to darken it! I'm not "proud" to be white - it just isn't an issue. Confidence, arrogance, comfortable in my skin? Who knows.
BTW - were the dolls blonde? If so, that would explain it. Most white children want to be blonde, too.

I seen it and then tried the same thing with my white daughters. I laid out 1 white doll and 1 black doll. And asked both of them which one they thought was better. One of my daughters picked the white doll and said it was better because it had blue eyes. My other daughter picked the black one up and said it was better because she has curly hair. Unless children are taught to see the difference they do not notice the color. That is the beauty of a child. I believe allot of black children hear their parents speak how whites have better opportunities, and white children hear their parents speak of the mischief blacks get themselves into. It is just to bad that adults can't see things through the eyes of an innocent child.

yes. it is imaged in young americans head that the product of society is to be white. it has nothing to do with not being proud because these kids are obviously too young to know what being black is completely about.
the image of ''right is white'' plays a factor on all kids of different ethnicities in america, not just blacks.

I didn't see it but I am sure you're right. Oppression does get internalized - clearly. Not that there is anything wrong with being white, but the problem is when kids think it's better. It's a sad commentary on society honestly.

I have not seen that one. I think that is crazy, All the people I know who are black, white, hispanic or what ever all embrace their race and I don't have any friends that think white is better than anyone else. It is sad that there are people out there that are ignorant.

I have seen and read about other studies with the same findings. It is ridiculous that this type of thing occurs, even with the positive reinforcement by many African American parents about AFAM culture and pride. I think the bigger question is society too far gone in these ideals ?

This actually is based off an old experiment...I honestly forget who tested first...But I don't think it's really about race...most toy commericals show white dolls....When I was little, I had Barbies that were all different races. It never occurred to me that they were different colors because of race...to my young thought process...I thought they just came in different colors like M&M's...Most kids aren't thinking about race...Playing with a toy of a different color won't harm a child...if it did..wouldn't all the kids that played with Gumby be messed up? Really people it's not that deep...

I didn't see it, but heard of that experiment many years ago. On a side note, I'm more shocked by Oprah's recent promotion off "woo-woo" stuff - like psychics and that idiotic "The Secret" Book/video. Also how she got Dr Phil started loses her a few points in my book.

children tend to pick up on things inferred by society which everybody else seems to miss ~i guess it's just the way of the world.
most people know better, but society will eventually learn that we are all of equal value
