I was watching TLC's Bringing home Baby and saw a mother from Ethiopia who wrapped her stomach with cloth and said it was a tradition in Africa to do this after giving birth. Apparently you wear it, except for showers, for like 3 months after giving birth and it helps shape your body back. I'm interested in trying this with my next post pregnancy, but would like more info on it!

If you say it does not work I would like to know why, and if you have used it did it work.

I wouldn't assume that it's worn tight enough to "crush" anything. It's not a corset. It would just help support the sagging skin and ease any stress on the skin and muscles. It may work to a small degree and help with any water retention by keeping gentle pressure. there are different products being sold that basicaly do the same but are snug elastic instead of a wrap. At the very least it would be a confidence booster when you go out soon after baby and don't feel all jiggly and unattractive.

Yes !!!
Finally , someone else who saw the show with the stomach binding . I am due in 2 weeks and I am going crazy over trying to get this information as well. There seems to a lot of controversy regarding the matter, as I think they stated on the show. As I researched the Internet the only thing I came up with was that it may cause some long-term internal damage. However there is a site that sells the sort of wrapping , it is called the "jamushop". It has a lot of information on how to wrap.... Hope this helps you a little. www.jamushop.com

Yes, i've heard of it. infact, in my culture, that's what our parents reccomand. It helps your stomach regain it's shape before pregnancy. I just had my baby last december and for the whole month of January, I had to wrap by stomach with either a girdle or long cloth and eat chicken ONLY! It won't get you back to the shape you were before you got pregnant though. I don't have that much of a belly fat since i used this technique but one of my cousin who didn't looked like she was still pregnant two years after she gave birth. I really reccomend this technique because it helps alot!

I was supposed to wear a binding after I had my c-section but on the second day I lost so much water weight they did not have one small enough to fit. So I don't know. good luck

You do not want to bind your stomach - it can actually crush your organs and cause other problems.

All you can do is eat a healthy low fat, low carb diet, exercise and work your way back to a fit body size.

Good luck

I have never heard of that, but hey its worth a shot. I have only ever binded my breast after giving birth to dry up my milk. Have you tried looking at TLC's website, maybe they have some info on there about it. I love TLC.

I had to wear a "binder" for three months after delivering 15 lbs of twins - my abdominal muscles were ripped back to my back! It was good support but be sure you can reach your breasts (if you're breastfeeding.) My first "binder" had a bra attached, and that was just a pain.

It's a tradition, but it doesn't work.
Do situps, obliques, crunches every day - that works!
