I'm wondering..when meeting a new person, how do you sense something is wrong? What would be signs that this person could turn out abusive, controlling, obsessive..Is there anything, during the first dates?

A temper and a lack of patience can be tip offs. Usually it does take more than a few dates to see a person's true colors.

Drinkers tempers usually go through the roof if they're long-time alcoholics, or if they drink and alcoholism is in the family.

Or he may do drugs or have other "dependancies" or obsessions.

Have a one track mind, more than any other man. They clearly show they haven't changed in a long time, and SAY they want to change, but most likely NEVER will.

They are often romantics, use sensitivity, money gifts and other tools to lure you in and keep you "whipped".

They often don't have many friends, or have close family ties if any. They're the kind of ppl who keep a lot of skeletons in the closet so to speak.

They attach very quickly, and will put up with just about any behaviour you throw at them just because they need a little dollie to carry around with them whereever they go.

Yes, if you are a keen observer of human nature, you can see whether his real nature is that nice gentlemanly nature or is abusive and he is putting on a show. If not in the first meeting, soon enough. In his talk, in his behavior with others, his talk about his ex, and his body language.
