The first person who wrote about Atlantis (if you are using English this is the correct spelling) was Plato in his Dialogues.

So far, there is no accepted historical, archeological or anthropological proof of the existance of that land, although there are theories placing it in the middle of the Atlantic, in the Americas, or in the Mediterranean and mentiong it as a continent, a country or an island.

On curious item: The word "Atl" means water in Nahuatl, the language of a large part of the civilised Indians of Mexico before the coming of Columbus.

Are you talking about Atlantis?

Atlantis was first discussed in Ancient Greece and is currently believed to be the Minoan Civilization which was based on an island in the Med.

EDIT: The History Channel published a show entitled 'Atlantis (Crete and Santorini)' that details the theory of the Minoan Civilization being that of the famed Atlantis.

By the way: the confusion over Atlantis being in the Atlantic is because how close the two names are. However, both were named after the same Greek Diety...Atlas (much like the mountain range).

There are no facts. The only evidence of Atlantis' existence comes from Plato, who wrote about it in two of his dialogs, Timaeus and Critias.
