Until they are officially assumed dead they have to be registered missing for seven years so they can easily claim for seven years provided there is no conviction.

If this is a genuine question and you did loose a child then i am very sorry but if not it isn't a nice question and is in poor taste.

Mark S just for the record you would prob class me as part of the "hate mob" but i can assure you i have never ever been on benefits and have worked ever since i left college at 19 yrs old except for maternity leave where i was financially supported by my husband.
Even if i was on benefits some people have genuine illnesses and disabilities and i think you are wrong to use it to look down your nose at people and use it a class war! Grow up and try using a proper argument then trying to demoralise people.

It's the EU ruling, and the parents can only claim it once they have been paying tax and NI here for one year, so therefore they are entitled to claim it....BUT...if the children are not living here then it should only be paid at the rate it is in their home country. To pay anymore is an absolute insult to those who have paid into the system all their working lives and are now struggling to pay their sky high fuel and food bills with no help whatsoever from this corrupt government, or the unelected, faceless bureaucrats of the monster that has become the EU....both of which have no compunction about feathering their own nests

Interesting question. I would say that you should inform the department after a week in order that they can suspend payments. In the hope that all turns out well. Saying nothing could involve a large repayment claim!

If it is true that you have a lost child, then you have all of my sympathies, but surely you should be more interested in finding the child than worrying about when you lose your benifits!
