It may be because of the angle the picture was taken at or if the lighting was bad. The camera can play tricks and different settings can alter the outcome of a photo.

Some people who are really good looking, pretty or beautiful sometimes aren't photo gentic. I am just an average looking guy, but a lot of my friends say I take a good picture.

Do a little experiment for me. Write your name on a piece of paper. Look at the piece of paper via a mirror. You will see that what you see on the mirror is not the same as what's on the paper.
Most people recognise themeslves by looking at a mirror reflection, but what they know as their image is not exactly the same as what other people view them as.
Your understanding of what you look like is a mirror image of what you actually look like.
So when you look at photos, you are essentially looking at yourself as others see you.

for the same reason like me. we're just not photogenic. the camera takes a picture of a different angle making the picture look very different. i always look a lot fatter when i take photos.
or it could be that it looks like you and you dont recognize yourself cos maybe you were expecting something else.....

the lighting or angle your taking the picture could show a different view of your face than you're used to seeing everyday.
It's you...just at a different angle!

A second opinion from somebody else will likely let you know that you look like you.

happens to me too. i think i look prettier in person. cameras only catch one angle of you and it's doesn't do you justice.
