In the US, it's recommended that women start having pap tests at age 21 (no, not 18!) or THREE YEARS AFTER first vaginal sexual intercourse.

You can use a gynecologist or a general practitioner. Sexually active women may want birth control or STD testing, but again, you can use a gynecologist or regular doctor. whichever you prefer.

It makes me sad and angry that so many people think getting your period is a reason to see a doctor. Menstruation is completely normal and does not warrant medical intervention. Of course, if you are having problems with your period you may want to see a gynecologist, but it's not necessary for a normal, healthy teenager.

In most countries other than the US, women do not routinely see gynecologists.

Usually the age is 17 to 18 or when you become sexually active (the first time you have sex) which ever comes first. It can be before this time if you want it to be. One reason to always go earlier is if you are having a problem with your period or any pain dealing with that area.

Why on earth are people getting thumbs down for correct answers. The work of trolls has got to be exhausting!

The "norm" age for seeing the gyn for the first time is 18 years old. If you become sexually active beforehand, or are having gynecological issues before that, then earlier.

It depends...
I would say once you become sexually active unless you seem to have a problem with your menstraul cycle. If none of these occur before the age of 18 I think that would be a good age to begin your yearly paps.

The common rule of thumb is that you should begin seeing a gynecologist when you turn 18 or become sexually active, whichever happens first.

All the experts say you should go once you turn 21 or whenever you become sexually active. (There is no need to go when you start your period, unless there is something wrong)

when you start your period. Things start changing with your body at that time....its a good idea to go once a year to make sure everything is good.
