How many people think that parents that "accidently" leave their child to die in a hot car for hours should be sent to prison!!?? It boils my blood to hear that people are being let go because their excuse for their child dying of hypothermia in a hot car was simply "I forgot he/she was in there"!! What do you guys think?

I think its rediculous. And the more people just keep getting a "slap on the hand" for "accidently leaving their child to die" the more people who actually DON'T want their children are going to go that route to kill them because they know they will be able to get away with it in the end. Think about it...when you have a parent that decides they don't want their kid anymore, what do they do? They put them in garbage cans, or leave them in the woods in the middle of winter to freeze to death...etc. But now if people see THIS going on. They are going to think "Hmm, I could just leave my unwanted child in the backseat of my car on a scorching hot (or freezing cold) day and the consequences won't be as great! It looks more like an easy way out to them if you ask me.

Hypothermia is suffering ill effects of cold. However, I completetly agree with you. My mom never once forgot us. I can understand that you forgot, if you're high or drunk. Which in that case you're still not parent of the year material.

It's a good question. I can't fathom forgetting my child is in the car that I was driving, but anyone would be completely devastated if their negligence led to the death of their child. There should be a "childless rule" where they can't have any more children for the next umpteen years. If they had any remaining children, those should be placed in another home. They should be required to endure the loss of some of their freedom, therapy, a class that tells them EXACTLY what their child may have experienced, and only get supervised visitation for their remaining children. When the "childless rule" was no longer in effect, they should be on a specific probation that allows a social worker to call/visit often and they must consistently report to someone. Wow, I didn't even know what my opinion was until I started typing. Thank you.

Okay, I'm assuming you mean heat stroke. Do I think people should go to prison? Well, there are lots of people who honestly forget, they didn't do this on purpose, and they are probably living through h*ll. Would prison make a difference on these people, no. What's the use of sending them to prison, they already lost their child. It's a horrible mistake, like an accidental child drowning, it's something preventable, but people do make horrible mistakes with no malice of forethought.

On the other hand, there are people who leave their kids in the car becauses they were on drugs, or like that woman who took them to work because she didn't have a sitter, left them in the car resulting in their deaths. Now these people should be sent to prison.

I think that it is absolutely unacceptable. What's the point of being a parent if you are not caring for the child? Family should always be at the TOP of the priority list. Forgot? You can forget to take your reading glasses off before going to bed. You can even forget to pay the cable bill. But how how how can one forget their own child? What could ever be THAT important???

I do. This lady in Charlotte (an assistant principle at an elementary school) "forgot" about her baby in her car. How the hell does someone forget about their child in the car, let alone, foget they even have their child. Hell yeah! They should go to jail. That right there shows negligence. This lady was making deliveries...made 2 trips to and from her car coming from the front to the trunk. She did not have tinted windows. She could have seen her baby in the back seat. DUH! Dumbass! I don't care. That's negligence as a mother and murder. She killed her child because she "forgot" she had her child - she neglected the fact that she had her child and was irresponsible for not putting her child in a day care or having a baby sitter care for the baby. Instead, she brought the baby along to work and on her deliveries. She definitely "KNEW" she had her child and totally pretending that she "forgot". PUT her in jail and make her suffer more.

its real sad that this happens. and real stupid in order to back a car up or parole park you need to look in your mirror so they should see there children. and also when to step out of your care usually you look in your windows so i should think they would see there children then to.

they take your license for speeding,DWI, and many other reasons they should make it a state rule that if a parent leaves there child in the vehicle then there license is taken and they serve a sentence in jail/prison.

they also have a rule for pools over 4 feet should have alarm on it for when young children are near by. when a person buys a vehicle and you have or are planning to have children or once you do have a baby. they should make it mandatory they buy that new product that is made for car seats so that this don't happen.

They usually are sent to prison. I do believe these parents did simply forget--few parents would murder their kids, and the kids in the car incidents happen more often than child murder--they don't seem to be simply another method to kill them. That lack of intent doesn't excuse them, it is still child neglect, and they should and do still go to prison for it. The same as if you were talking on the cellphone while reading a newspaper and trying to drive at the same time, and hit and killed somone. It would still be an accident, still be your fault, and the charge would still be manslaughter and you'd still go to jail.

I can see how they would forget. So many people are so scatter brained because of how we live. It's crazy and absolutely insane. However, I don't think they should be not held accountable. I think they should go to prison. It certainly would do much in terms of accountability and responsibility. If you knew that you could go to prison for forgetting something so important than don't you think you would be more likely to remember? You would work at it. It works with me. If I need to remember something important, I make an effort to. But I have seen plenty of scatterbrains who just don't seem to make that effort for whatever reason they have. Our lifesytle is to blame. If we changed how we live then we would see an improvement in these kinds of things. I'm sure of it.

I tell ya what. If it was a friggin dog locked in that car like that....their would be public outcry! If they "forgot" their child was in the car....they are f....king stupid...and deserved to be punished for being f...king stupid. I wonder how many more "forgetful" parents are going to kill their kids before something is done about this! don't want your kid anymore???? Lock them in a damn car....you'll get away with it! now that winter is coming up.....they'll freeze to death.
something needs to be done.

Many people are too stupid to have children-- which is why so many children grow up stupid. When a child dies because of this fact, it makes the news and we think about it. Think about all the bad things that happen to children that aren't lethal, but happen everyday. Makes you wonder.
