This is a 6 year old craftsman electric law mower. Worked great until this summer when it started to stop and run periodically (every few minutes). The stop last only 1 minute or less. What's wrong with it? How can get it fixed by myself? Thanks a lot.

sounds like it is overheating, there should be a cover on the motor that keeps grass clippings from collecting. it may be filled and just needs to be cleaned out. with the mower unplugged take the cover off and blow out the area around the bearings and electrical connections. also while the mower is unplugged flip the mower over and clean under the deck where the blade goes. good luck

even though the engine starts, the spark plug could still be bad of the gap needs to be adjusted. over time the gag increases and causes less spark. Find your owners manual and find the correct setting or just go buy a new one for a few bucks. Also, check the air filter element for dirt. If its clugged, the engine wont get enough air/fuel mixture to keep running.

Look for a loose wire connection inside the handle.
or a bad plug. If neither of those-- 29.99 to drop off at Sears, Minimum 60.00 repair cost --2 weeks or longer - they don't service at repair centers.

6 years old-- I would pitch and buy a new one...

Check and see if it has a thermal overload protection. That's a little device that will kill the juice if it gets too hot. Most of them reset automatically when they cool down. I have no idea to tell you where to look for it....sorry about that

You might have to take it to a matinence store where they sepcialize in that kid of thing. There might be a short in the wire and you might want to get a new wire put on it.

If it is not kicking a breaker when it happens, then it is probably overheating.
