A person of peace and tranquility whether genuine or assumed. Perhaps a little unconscious of fashion.

The sixties hippies are all collecting pensions or have long since sold out their rhetoric for a place in the material world. The fake neo- hippies of today actually do things to better the world, or funny enough it's what they don't do that makes the world better. Those would be the main differences.

look at the Woodstock movie, (original) there are people of every color and nationality. The Vietnam war united people because of the draft (mostly). They were rebelling against the "Leave it to Beaver" image. LSD did open a lot peoples minds and had a great impact on thinking. (wouldn't recommend it unless you do some good research, I did! LOL, seriously!) Society was just different then. Aids wasn't around, and to be honest, the music was just better. But, you must look at the fact that "generation" imploded on itself, it burned out. Look at the Seventies.

Today? I am glad to see the pretty "flower children girls" and the dudes wearing their hair long.

Being a real hippie is just that, being a "poser" is just that. You can be real in any phase of society, if you want. Just find yourself... and burn one!

Oh, and listen to some Floyd!

Hippies from the 60's were a product against a represive society. Stereotyped society that thought that bcoz different everything had to be bad.
The hippy movmrnt had its main importance at the end of the 60's when USA was starting to reclute all young men to send them to fight in wars that youth didnt feel as own.
The main thing was few years after..Vietnam war.
Hippies were rebels..made the voice of young pple could be heard..lovers of peace..with a different way to dress...and from that generation came "monsters" of the music, as Bob Dylan.
Many used drugs (but not all of them) and were irresponsibles about many things ( children above all)
In spite of all that things.......they "marked" an epoch ..

The difference with the fake neo-fakes of today???
You have told it.......the Nowadays hippies dont exist.. They are FAKE.

Actually, drugs, sex, & rock n roll was pretty accurate ! Throw in some demonstrating against the Vietnam War, some health food consciouness, interest and exploration of different religions, communal living, and of course, middle class parents that 'help' if reality was a bad trip! At least, that's how I saw my sister's hippie experience in 1968 - 1972.

still bearded--
sometimes 'grungy' appearance without being 'dirty'--

Difference?
It's hard to be different today---if you still THINK like you did back in the hippie days.
I WERE one--hahahha.
I HAVE changed,, but I still FEEL those days.
I dress to suit MYSELF only.
I do NOT follow fads.
I dress COMFORTABLY.

People tell me I look like I am from California or somewhere else----I guess because I DO dress how i feel.
I am from the OTHER side of the states--so I take that as a compliment--- woo.
