The egg two animals could have made the chicken to be what it is today. My guess is the egg comes first!!!

if you are looking for an answer based in the theory of evoloution, then it was the egg.
an animals genetic makeup dosen't change throughout it's life, as such the first bird to evolve into a chicken millions of years ago would have had to have first exsisted as an embryo.
i remember this as a news item a few months ago, and it is still a theory, but the best we have.
if it is a religous answer, then i would suggest a chicken before an egg. but i think you meant in evoloutionary terms.

The chicken (if you think about Creation), because God created all the animals.
But if you think about evolution, well, I guess some cosmic dust or something fell from the sky and created an egg over a period of years before the dinosaurs too were created by falling cosmic dust.
