4 instruments family:
violon family
flute family
trumpet family
percussions (drum)
An orchestra is an instrumental ensemble, usually fairly large with string, brass, woodwind sections, and possibly a percussion section as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orchestra
The typical symphony orchestra consists of four proportionate groups of similar musical instruments, generally appearing in the musical score in the following order (with proportions indicated):
Woodwinds: piccolo, 2 flutes*, 2 oboes*, English horn, 2 clarinets*, bass clarinet, 2 bassoons*, contrabassoon
Brass: 2* to 8 French horns*, 2* to 5 trumpets*, 2 to 3 trombones, 1 to 2 bass trombones, tuba
Percussion: timpani*, snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, triangle, wood block, tambourine, marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, etc.
Strings: harp(s), 16 to 30 violins*, 8 to 12 violas*, 8 to 12 violoncellos*, and 5 to 8 double basses*.

What a wild group of answers you have here. Fact is, if it's an instrument, someone has written a piece for it with orchestra. Therefor, every instrument can be found at some time in the symphony. Even the kazoo.
It's not as complicated as some seem to think:
The strings are the foundation and are:
* Violin
* Viola
* Cello
* Bass (also called Contrabass)
* Harp
[Violin is an instrument - 'Violin I' is a part.]
The percussion provides the rhythm and some melodics:
* Snare and Bass Drum
* Tympani
* Mallet Percussion (including the chimes)
* Battery Percussion
* Piano (and other keyboards such as the harpsichord or organ) is part of the percussion section or are solo instruments
The winds are in two families, woodwind and brass;
woodwinds:
* Flute (C, Alto, Bass) and piccolo
* Clarinet (Eb, D, C, Bb, A, Basset Clarinet, Basset Horn, Bass Clarinet)
* Saxophone (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone) [only by modern composers - not a traditional orchestral instrument]
* Oboe, Oboe d'Amour, and English Horn
* Bassoon and Contrabassoon
brasses:
* Trumpet and Cornet (Eb, Bb, Bass)
* French Horn (and related instruments such as the natural horn and Wagner Tuben)
* Trombone and Bass Trombone
* Tuba (F, Eb, CC, BBb)
A symphony orchestra will have all four primary strings (violin, viola, cello, and bass) and any other instruments that a composer called for in his composition. Some composers such as Wagner wrote for large orchestras with a lot of instruments - others wrote for nothing but the strings.
One thing an orchestra does that bands and wind ensembles tend not to do. If a composer writes for an orchestra and he doesn't need the sound of a flute - he doesn't write for any flutes. When a composer writes for wind ensemble, he tends to include all of the parts in the composition.

First we can see the violin familiy.wich we can say the strings family.This string family has some parts:
1.The violin(1st)
2.The violin(2nd)
3.The viola
4.The celo
5.The bass
6.Sometimes we have guitar,too
the violins are the imporatant part of the orchestra.
Then we have the woodwinds family.wich can have some great solos in a music.
1.flute
2.clarinet
3.oboe
4.bassoon
5.and sometimes in jazz groups we can have saxophone
Oboe is the most important woodwind instrument,because of it's sound and the beautiful solos.
Then we see the percussions family.
1.The piano(the really important one)
2.xylophone
3.tembourine
4.and in jazz groups we have drums
after these we have the brass family:
1.trombone

Trombet is the important one in brass.

Quite a few people have already answered this question comprehensively. Let me just add that it might be helpful to get a recording of Benjamin Britten's "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra." This narrated work breaks down the orchestra by section and by individual instrument so you can hear the different tone qualities of each--then it reunites all of them for a glorious finale.
