I remember reading a book about 20-25 years ago about a young girl (maybe 10 yrs) that had some sort of special power or ability. She was in a locked facility like maybe a military base with others of her kind. I remember that the kids try (and maybe suceed) breaking out of this place. I want to say the main character's name was Anastasia. I thought it was called "The girl with the silver eyes", but that wasn't it. My daughter read that one and there is nothing about a facility or trying to break out of it.

Does anyone remember this book or can you give me a suggestion of where I can look. I'm sorry I can't remember more about it. My daughter is interested in reading it. Thanks.

It sounds really familiar. I was wondering if it could be "Notes on the Hauter Experiment" by Bernice Grohskopf. It's about these kids locked in a kind of school and they don't have contact with anyone else...even food comes through a hole in the door. The main character in that one is Evelyn, though.

I'm also having flashbacks of another book called "Anna to the Infinite Power," by Mildred Ames, but in that one she is locked up in some kind of hospital for "tests" but figures out that they're going to dispose of her (kill her) because she's a clone, and found out. The main character is Anna, obviously.

You can also post your description on these websites for more exposure. They're all really good at solving this type of question!

Yeah, I was thinking The Girl With the Silver Eyes too... she had telkinetic abilities, but your daughter is right... there wasn't anything about breaking out of anywhere. I tried to do a search but came up with nothing.

Perhaps it is one of Lois Lowry's books with the Anastasia character. Good luck.
