i have a compact fridge by frigidaire that stands about 4 feet tall and 2 feet wide. the freezer is seperate and on top, just like a normal fridge...but lately, it has not been getting very cold. this has happened before, and when i left it unplugged for a while then plugged it back up, it began working just fine. so i'm wondering if it has anything to do with the freezer being too full and/or the vent in there being blocked?? i don't wanna unplug the fridge cuz i have some food in there; so if it's the freezer being too full, do i just need to take some stuff out for the fridge part to get cold?? does anyone know what's causing this?? thanks in advance!

It could be frosted up, if there is excess frost on the freezer side, you will have to defrost it.

Or, the vent between the freezer compartment and the refrigerator is blocked by a pesky box of frozen fish sticks!

It won't be too much food in the freezer.

There is also a dial that will let you turn the temp up or down in the refrigerator, maybe it got moved!

You could have a fault in the compressor.
You could be low on coolant.

In any case, the freezer vent would have little to do with the fridge being too-warm, since each uses their own cooling loops.

Now, if you are saying that the entire unit (ice box & fridge) are too warm, you may have inadequate ventillation on the coils at the back of the unit.

In anycase, short of pulling the unit out further from the wall...any repair/work on a fridge should be by a LICENSED technician *only*.

Several things might cause this to happen. First, these units have very small compressors, and they will not recover well if opened frequently. This could easily be determined to be the cause by leaving it closed for a full day then see if temperature is OK. If this is the problem, simply monitor the times you have open the door.

A second cause could be dirty coil. Clean the coils and check the seal around the door. If the coils are dirty and the seal is not rock solid tight.......no cool. Stick a dollar bill into the door opening, close the door and it should hold the bill in place. Do this around the door opening. If the bill falls, seal is bad.

Lastly is freon level low. If this is the case replace it, too expensive to fill.

If you have a alternate place to put your food try leaving it off for at least 8 hrs there may be an ice build up. Then clean every thing and try it before you put food in again.

Try cleaning the vents, the intake vents on the outside, as well as being certain you are not blocking the interior vents.

If you tried the above - changing the temp setting dial - lesser food etc - and still not cold .......

then you have to change the fridge - the compressor died....

if the cold air can't circulate, likely too much of is staying the freezer.
