Derek Jeter

Jorge Posada. Switch hitter, hits to all fields from both sides, and this year has been getting on base as well as any catcher ever. Hits well on the road, too. And, as evidenced from his 2003 confrontations with Pedro the Punk Martinez, is not afraid of any pitcher.

Not the Yankee answer you were expecting, was it?

I would say Hanley Rameriz, he has been doing everything this year on a bad team, you do not need a bomb right now so you just need someone to put it into play.

Others to consider would be Jimmy Rollins, Ichiro (probably the best choice anyway but I want to be different), Lowell, Jeter, A-Rod and Freddy Sanchez (has come up with clutch hits for another bad team.)

A base hit wins the game so you need the best contact hitter at the plate. I would take Jeter against a left handed pitcher and Ichiro against a right handed pitcher.

This is a tough answer and I wanted to do some research and I found some pretty interesting things (based on RBI's alone).

Best hitter with runner 3rd - Ryan Howard, PHI (17 RBI's)

Best hitter with two outs - Alex Rodriguez, NYY (66 RBI's)

Other cool stats:

Best hitter with runners on 2nd and 3rd - Emil Brown, KC (21 RBI's)

Best hitter with RISP - Magglio Ordonez, DET (99 RBI's)

Best hitter when behind in the count - Bengie Molina, SF (37 RBI's)

Best hitter when ahead in the count - Alex Rodriguez, NYY (66 RBI's)

Best hitter vs. lefties - Jeff Francouer, ATL (45 RBI's)

Best hitter vs. righties - Alex Rodriguez, NYY (116 RBI's)

There is so much more you can look up. Just go to MLB.com and go to stats and then sortable player stats.

Placido Polanco, he never strikes out, can just as easily draw a walk as get a hit to win it, very disciplined hitter who can wait for his pitch, and he hits to all fields with ease, one of the most underrated players in all of baseball.

I would have to agree with whoever said that it didn't matter because he would be walked, but lets say he is playing a lowsy team like the Bosox and then I would pick ALbert Puljos
