Yahoo deleted my question. It was NOT offensive in any way, I just wanted to know the process in which I can get a SSN for my newborn. Is Yahoo all idiots? Do they have some guy just sitting there deleting random questions? What gives?

I'm well aware that I first need a date of birth. But I want to be prepared and have any necessary forms ready to go.

Don't you love people who don't read the extra information? They don't know your question (this time) ISN'T about applying for a social security number. Only those who read the extra info know that your question is REALLY about Yahoo! Answers.

I've had seemingly innocent questions removed as well. Unfortunately, they do not give you a reason why your question was deleted.

You can appeal, if you'd like. While you probably think it's not worth it, if you do appeal and win, it diminishes the ability of whoever reported you to have influence over deletions.

♥ Firstly~ CONGRATULATIONS to you!

Step 1~ Fill out the application provided by your hosptial & follow the instructions for mailing it in. If baby was born at home or at a non-participating hospital contact the Social Security Administration at (800) 772-1213 or visit your local Social Security office to obtain a form.

Step 2~ Take the original birth certificate (or a certified copy) to the local Social Security office. If you're applying by mail, you'll need to mail the original or certified copy with the form. It will be returned to you.

Step 3~ Expect to receive your child's Social Security card in the mail within two months.

Step 4~ Keep the card in a safe place, such as a safety deposit box or home safe!

Remember that there are a number of reasons that a question may be deleted... It may be deleted because it's a repeat (if you ask the same question twice). It may be deleted because it's filed in an improper category or in an improper country. There should have been an explanation for the deletion, and I believe Yahoo provides a process for appeal if there was a mistake.

When your baby is born at the hospital the nurse that takes care of your checking out procedure will have you fill out the paperwork for the SS#. At least that is what our hospital did. You cannot send info to the ss office until the baby is born. The SS office will send you the card in a few weeks.

The hospital will have you sign the paperwork after the child is born for the social security application. You do not need to do anything at this point. And probably will not need to do anything after the birth except to sign the app.

your best bet is to go to the ssa websites they'll answer your questions there. As far as yahoo deleting questions, its amazing how sometimes they'll leave the truly offensive ones on and delete some of the normal ones.

Sometimes Y/A deletes questions by accident--I've had it happen a couple of times.

What probably happened is some jerk who has his head up his a-- abot "social ist programs" reported your question and the Y/A person who checked it deleted it by mistake.

In general they do a pretty good job--and they do correct errors if you ask them to (I've also had a couple of erroneous violations removed).

Cut them some slack--nobody's perfect! :)

BTW--go to ssa.gov for info on getting that Social Security number and card.
