I am not sure about other states. I know in SC trucks are not held responsible for broken windsheilds unless it cuases injury, but they do require that auto insurance pay to fix winsheilds once a year without an increase in premiums. I would call you insurance company and find out what they suggest you do.

Laws differ from state to state. My guess is nothing. Once the rock hits the pavement the trucking company is not responsible for your windshield. Been there done that. However some states require trucks to place tarps over their loads as to not through rocks or any other materials into traffic.
You can sue but your glass is less costly than court fees.
If it is chipped and not cracked you can have the chip repaired so it will not run. Most/some insurance companies will pay for the repair.

some states hold the truck driver responsible if the rock came off the truck. Others do not. I don't know of any state that holds the truck driver responsible if the rock comes up off the road. Contact your insurance agent and they can tell you what to do.

Make a claim against the truck. Advise your insurance company that this happened this way, you may be able to collect from the other guy's insurance, if you can prove it.

Contact the state patrol and explain the situation . They may be able to help. If it happened to you, there may have been others who had the same problem from the same truck.
