Sadness is a part of ourselves, as much as happiness, and other feelings.
As far as the things that have made us feel a certain way, we can choose to avoid reminders of extreme events, but it is healthier to acknowledge those events. Moreover, it is important to see beyond them.
For example, 9/11 is a big news story, given tragic events that happened that day. But, if someone has a birthday on that day, it's perfectly okay to also feel joyful to acknowledge that event, too. Life is bigger than any one event or emotion.

Yes, it is true, you can't get away from sadness. Sadness is a human emotion. You can only learn to deal with sadness by turning it around and doing or thinking about something that will give you joy and happiness.

Sure is a broad question, but I would say that it depends on what is making you sad. Sounds like you may have a little depression. If you are a student, go talk with a teacher or counciler at school. If you are an adult and you go to church, go see your preacher, etc. If you don't have a church, find one or just pick one off of the street.
But know matter how old you are, go talk with someone.
Try prayer, God can do lots of things.

Psychologically that has a basis in fact. Only technically, through semantics. But realizing it, changes everything. Emotions can be "controlled" as mentioned previously, but take care in exceeding limits on emotions that can be suppressed, only to resurface later. Either way, to say that one cannot escape the things that make us sad is like saying one cannot escape the things that make us happy, or any other emotion that has significant meaning. Dwelling on either "positive" or "negative" may relate more to the same analogy of the cup being half full, or half empty. Also beware of posts like mine that may sound mature, but contain nothing.

its quite true, since memories last forever..you will be reminded of the things that makes you sad...so, wherever you go and no matter how you try to forget, it will always be a part of who you are..but the only good thing is that after some time, it will all be memories and you wont have any feelings or emotion for it. remember " this too shall pass"!

Many members of society believe in the philosophy of don't worry be happy. That whole philosophy is pure utter nonsense. Human beings were made to have many emotions and one of them is sadness. You can't escape sadness because there are many horrifying events in every body's life. Most people have experienced a death. To say don't worry be happy is shunning pure human emotion. In fact, that would not be human.

That is an absolute LIE. I have had many heartachs in my life and I am still a very happy positive person. I have a secret to this and I am not sure if I can share openly, but my life has been transformed and I don't live life with regret or saddness.
Good luck - seek and you will find. Knock and the door will open.

I don't think that one could completely forget about the things that make him/her sad but they can deal with whatever it is, conquer their feelings, and move on with their life. We never forget the negative things that has happened to us. Those are the things that give us wisdom and shapes us into the people we are. The trick is to learn how to surpass all of those negative feelings and turn them into something good and learn from them.

Some sadness is like a shadow, always there. The rest can be overcome.

No. Nothing and nobody can "make" you feel anything. Being sad is a choice that we make, albeit often unconsciously.
