Could someone tell me what the court does with bail money if a defendant skips bail and does not appear? What does the court do with that money?

If you pledged as collateral for bail, say, your house, it is foreclosed upon or if you paid cash in full, it is forfeited permanently to the Court and a bench warrant is put out for your arrest.

If you hired a bailbonding company, the 10% of the bond that you paid was your fee and you are already out that anyway; however, the Court will make the bailbonding company pay the entire amount of bail and then the bailbonding company will likely put a bounty on your head and a bounty hunter looking to collect a fee will find you and drag you back to Court to appear and you, or whomever posted your bail, could be sued for the entire amount of the bail.
