I was going to say that they all have at least two of one vowel and two of one consonant, but "assess" doesn't fit that pattern.

hmmmm...... oh, I see it. If you take off the first letter, they all spell the same backwards and fowards.

They are all a single letter followed by a palindrome, so that if you move the 1st letter to the end, you get the word spelled backwards. I.e. Banana = ananaB.

they are mirror images of the word, take off the first letter and put in on the end of the word and it will mirror the exact same word!!!
