Me personally? No way. I'll put my faith in good ol' brick or wood thank you. Bamboo is a great renewable resource and works well as an accent or supplemental building material. But a whole house made of bamboo? Not in a temperate climate. The temperature extremes would cause cracks and splits. As for safety? Just ask some of the survivors of the great fire storms that swept Tokyo and other Japanese cities during WW2. Bamboo is lighter, which also means it burns more quickly. Bamboo could, and should be, used much more than what it is as a building material. But not for whole house construction. I just don't think it would work in North America.

They do bring health to Panda bears.
Perhaps you need to study the conditions under which bamboo stalks grow, you are probably doing something wrong.
The bamboo will not take your illness away, I am not sure on your logic here. Bamboo is a plant, not a doctor.

How does the bamboo take your illness away? I mean, how does it actually obtain it? Then once it has it, what does it do with it?

I heard they're hard to keep alive. I've had a stalk of bamboo for a few years now. The damn thing won't die.

My interest in health fraud and quackery was stimulated by some experiences I had as a research assistant on a multiple sclerosis study. I was responsible for patient screening and recruitment and was amazed to see how many patients had been robbed by quacks or had tried "alternative treatments" during the course of their illness. On the one hand, some of these more "benign" treatments (yoga, different kinds of diet fads, etc) seemed to have a positive affect in terms of increasing a patient's "feeling in control" of their illness and its management. Sadly, it was more common for patients to become extremely depressed and demoralized when the latest fad "didn't work." It's my opinion that most Americans with chronic illnesses do believe that "something is missing" from conventional/orthodox western medicine. Still, I believe that most alternative medical practitioners cynically manipulate these kind of patients and only provide a cheap substitute for the "missing something."David Russo
