I am looking at a house that has central heat, but no central air. If a house already has central heat, does that typically make it easier to install central air?

If the house has forced -air central heat and the system is less than ten years old addind central air could be added for as little as a few thousand dollars.
If the central heat is water-radiator or some other form it would be more.
A system over ten years old may not have parts available.

If the heat is a forced air system the process is pretty easy. First make sure that someone does a load calculation to ensure you get teh proper size. Then it is a matter of adding a coil inside, an outdoor unit, and copper lines to connect them. You need to be sure that the hvac duct system is the proper size. If you do not have a forced air heating system there are other options such as ductless ac systems. Most solutions will cost less than $5000. Yes, but only if the heat is a hot air system, with duct work already in place. Then the cost is cut possible in half. The only thing you will need is air conditioning unit, cooling coil, some pipeing and a different thermostat. Get 2 or 3 bids, however.
