Russia tests 'Dad Of All Bombs'
Russia's military has successfully tested what it describes as the world's most powerful non-nuclear air-delivered bomb.
Channel One television said the new ordnance, nicknamed the "Dad Of All Bombs" is four times more powerful than the US "Mother Of All Bombs".
"The tests have shown that the new air-delivered ordnance is comparable to a nuclear weapon in its efficiency and capability," Col Gen Alexander Rukshin, a deputy chief of the Russian military's General Staff, said.
Unlike a nuclear weapon, the bomb does not pose an environmental threat from the release of radiation, he added.
The statement reflected the Kremlin's efforts to restore Russia's global clout and rebuild the nation's military might.
The muscle-flexing comes at a time when ties with Washington have become strained over US criticism of Russia's slips on democracy, Moscow's vociferous protests against US missile defence plans and rifts over global crises.
The US Massive Ordnance Air Blast, a large-yield satellite-guided, air delivered bomb, had been described as the most powerful non-nuclear weapon in history.
Channel One said that while the Russian bomb contained about 7 tons of high explosives compared with more than 8 tons of explosives in the US bomb, it is four times more powerful because it uses explosives developed with the use of nanotechnology.
While the American bomb was equivalent to 11 tons of TNT, the Russian one was equivalent to 44 tons of regular explosives. The Russian weapon's blast radius is 1,000 feet, twice as big as that of the US design, the report said.

This week 8 Russian long range bombers were turned away before they reached UK airspace and then came news of their bomb. Nothing will come of it, it's simply posturing, simply saying that if you push us we have the capability to push back. They know they don't, we know they don't but we can't expect societies or political ideologies to change overnight or for political leaders to simply accept that something they've lived their lives by has passed into history.
Ideally Putin wants international respect for Russia but has yet to learn flexing military muscle just doesn't impress.
If he wants a legacy he should concentrate on shutting down the Russian Mafia and bringing a true sense of democracy to his people.

Well not going to get any better. As for Russia, what did the world think when they put in a former Soviet Union KGB official as President? This guy is slowly bringing Russia back to what they were without actually saying it. People need to wake up and see what the threats in the world are and stop sugarcoating everything to try and make the world look like it is a peaceful utopia!
If we want to bring Russia to their knees we better find someone along the lines of Patton, MacArthur and Eisenhower so we have a military chance of winning; instead of a politically correct war being fought and loss.
Think the enemy is going to be as kind and sensitive towards us during war? Look at the terrorists do to POWs in Iraq! They behead them on videotape or worse! And here Americans are worrying if the terrorists in Guantanamo Bay are being allowed to pray and have comfortable and suitable living conditions!
Now imagine what Russians will do. Gulags anyone? America needs to get over this politically correct sensitivity and kindness and bring back vigilance and toughness!

well i dont think america will invade russia but i do think they will eventually clash. the world is arming up america has made its move on the middle east russia is not happy about this recent oil deals in russia have made it a once again merging power. europe is threatened by russia and might attack soon they have already had some cold war conflicts and no not previous current, its to do with oil off the coast of russia. the west will more then likely defeat the middle east russia and china will more then likely combine and attack the western world because the middle east is still very rich in minerals apparently in the dead sea there are more minerals then the rest of the world combined. russia has already showed interest in parts of israel and the dead sea and a possible conflict could develop between usa and iran quite interesting stuff im not making this up i have been following it for a while now and things look like they are about to explode

My opinion is that this is a nostalgic attempt to return to the "glory days" of Russian world dominance.I also feel it is more a propoganda device than any real threat to peace (if there is such a thing as peace anymore) in the world. Since the breakup of the old regime the Russians have struggled to maintain their significance on the world stage and I think Putin is attempting to make them seem relevant again- even if only from a sabre-rattling perspective.

What! You afraid that Putin is just another KGB Boss?
Russia wants to reinstall their Soviet system.
I wonder what their CITIZENS want.
Now that the Russian Mafia is well established here in the U.S.A., I do worry about the future and the direction being taken by the Russian government.
They do have a habit of taking a stand that opposes America's view on nearly any issue.
Marxism/Communism/Socialism! It continues to raise its ugly face up and spit at freedom!

Todays news sez Putin is to dissolve Russian political systems that are outdated? I did not understand the Yahoo article. China is at bay they need their resources and are a possible threat. They are into oil with Iran and developing fields in the Persian Gulf. Uranium and nuclear capacity is always a world concern with this bunch. Putin is at the end of his term and expect him to be alittle wreckless to make his mark in history. He does seem to be playing nicely right now. It is all highly volitile and requires watching. That's the jest of what I read about. Thanks for the additional info. Doubtful we will invade, diplomacy is the only way with this bunch to ensure some world safety. Let's pray it continues to work.

Putin is repeatedly preparing his country for what appears to be a major confrontation. If you happened to read my question regarding Pootey now disbanding the Russian government, you will see that I haven't trusted him for years.
I expect Putin to try some very very major dictatorial overthrow here in the near future.

No. An expanded Russian threat only benefits the U.S. It will force the world to pick sides. The Cold Wars was good for both the U.S. and Russia . . .
