Wings of Fire - APJ Abdul Kalam; 16 is certainly late to ignite the fire in the human spirit but this book is good for all those who have a spark in them and who can be moulded.

There is a great book called Smashed. It's a true story written by a girl (she's now in her 20s) who is an alcoholic. It has terrifying stories about what happened to her while she was drunk and partying. Every teenager should read this book b/c they will all be faced with the temptation to drink and do drugs. This book provides the truth about the damage that can be done by participating in these things. And the truth always gives you power.

The age of 16 is a bit crucial. Whether life to be taken seriously or lightly? Whether to be in a girl's company or a boy's? Whether to concentrate on study or money?... Many such questions come to her mind. The acceptance will depend on who gives answer rather than what he/she answers. In short, the mental inclination shall change from quality to presentation. Balancing of mind is required. Based on these, I would suggest a holy book or an inspirational biography like Gandhiji.

Anna's Story by BRONWYN DONAGHY
Anna Wood is the Sydney teenager who died while under the influence of the ‘designer’ drug ecstasy at an all-night rave party. The recent coroner’s enquiry determined that the specific cause of death was from the intake of too much water, brought on by ecstasy. Anna’s Story is a non-sensationalised account of teenage drug usage, and strips away the transparent glamour of rave/ecstasy parties.
I read it as a teen and have to say it is a great book, even for mum and dad to read. A real eye opener!!

There are a lot of awesome books out there, and I'm going to suggest books that everyone should read (I don't really see why being 16 and female should make you not suggest a good book):
-Snow Falling on Cedars (Sad story, but VERY interesting, I read this in my Ap Literature class as a Junior in HS.
-The Lovely Bones
-The Boy and the Samurai (Read this one in middle school, but I remember it being really cool)
(Sci-Fi)
Dragonlance Trilogy
The Lord of the Rings
Harry Potter (If she hasn't already read it)
There is lots to read out there, I hope she finds something she likes.

I guess that depends on the type of teenager you have. My very academic 16-year-old girl likes to read books by Edgar Allen Poe or Kurt Vonagut (I can't even spell his name right) or books on Anthropology. Why? not sure.
but anyway, I'd get her young adult romance books. Teens always like romance, but get her something not too racy right now. She'll have time for that later.
