There have been reports on various web sites that the lost Doctor Who classic "The Web of Fear" has been found.

The story features the second Doctor battling the Great Intelligence with his smothering fungus and Yeti robots in the London underground. It also marks the first appearance of Colonel Lethbridge Stewart, who would later be promoted to Brigadier.

I remember this story as being quite possibly the most terrifying Doctor Who story ever made. It gave me nightmares for years.

Does anybody know how much truth there is in this, or if it's only based on unfounded rumours?

I would love it to be true since it's one of my all time favourite Doctor Who stories.

HIy Helen O - I was only six or seven years old at the time at the time, it was never been repeated and I would love to see it again. Unfortuately the BBC wiped the master tapes in the 1970s though.

I would be skeptical until the BBC Doctor Who website confirms the reports. I love this story as the Target Novel and as the BBC Audio story so if it was found then I would be over the moon.
After finding one of the lost Dalek's Masterplan episodes a couple of years ago I can't see why another couple of stories may have survived somewhere.

I do remember watching a Dr Who series with Episode 1 starting with a ball floating in the air at an underground station. A Yeti appeared, and that's all I remember. It was one of the 1960's series, but that is all I remember.

The Yetis carried these balls in a pouch in their bodies.

Why would you want to see it again. Have the nightmare gone and you want them back?
