Me: Honey, if we have a hamper, why not putting your dirty laundry in it???
He: Huh? What? Repeat again?
Meanwhile, I'm on the phone, putting the laundry in the machine...etc etc.

OMG! I know exactly what you mean! I go through the same thing with my honey every Sunday (that's laundry day at our house)! Only our conversation looks like this:

Me: [picking up a dirty shirt off the floor and showing to him] Step 1, [Taking the white undershirt out of it] step 2, [putting the white shirt in the "whites" basket and the other in the "colors" basket], and step 3! Got it?

Him: [pause] No.

He's being sarcastic when he does this of course, but I just don't understand why he can't put his clothes in the freakin' basket! A friend recommended I try the "invisible clothes" routine. When clothes are on the floor instead of in the basket, they're invisible and don't get washed.

If he speaks English, it's a pretty easy sentence to understand!
You need to grab him over to the hamper and show him slowly, step by step, how it's done, and then make a point of how easy and quick it is to do it, plus how neat and tidy the house is without his dirty laundry sprawled all over the place!

Either that, or, you leave it all to pile up for a month or two, till it strikes him, that he once, could get to the bathroom without having to complete an obstacle course over his dirty pants, just to go pee. Not nice for you, but he might learn a lesson!

There's nothing difficult about that statement..other than the fact that he's a man and you are asking him to do something. I mean, come on now...you know men can't do things for themselves. Ya know what would be a real hoot....don't clean up after him or wash his laundry for a couple of weeks and see what he does then. :)

There's nothing hard to understand about that sentence.

Try washing ONLY the clothes that make it into the hamper. Maybe that'll drive home your point.

If you're saying it to a man, the sentence makes no sense to him at all. To him, it's garbled and he is using his selective hearing. Try adding in a few catch phrases like "beer" and "football" he will at least hear those and think that he has missed out on something really important!

I finally gave up and had to put the hamper where he most often throws his clothes.

LOL! This is how your conversation REALLY went...

You: Honey, if we have a hamper, why not put your dirty laundry in it???

This is what he heard: "Honey, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah."
