First of all, they are TOWELS. Twice you spelled it wrong. Second, who would take the advice of a minimum wage earner sales clerk in a department store? I have used fabric softener on towels as long as I've been doing laundry. 40+ years. The amount of absorbency they lose because of fabric softener in minimal, I'd rather have soft towels. It's a trade off but not much of one.

How nice, don't you like people that instead of helping you...they are sarcastic and rude...You didn't ask how to spell towels, you asked about fabric softener..giving unsolicited information is also rude (emgeealex)!. there are very smart people that work in creating and manufacturing detergents and linens so...They know best and the retail companies train their employees on proper procedures and the correct way to use things or what to put on them....at least bed bath and beyond does...so I'm sure the rest do...what does it matter if the person is minimum wage???....just because the person has been doing something for 40 years doesn't make it right....also just FYI....do not use fabric softener they loose their absorbency, have a waxy build up after time and also trap odor and dead skin in the wax...yuck...I really hope this helps!...and sorry for the rudeness over there....

Fabric softener in either sheet or liquid form will cut down on the absorbancy of the bath towel. However, it won't hurt the towel in any way. I use about 1/2 the usual liquid fabric softener every couple of washes for my towels. I don't notice any difference in drying. For people in very dry climates and in the winter time, the fabric softener will cut static considerably both on the towel and on you after you dry.

That's true that ANY type of fabric softner will make a towel lose it's absorbency.... I don't use fabric softner.. Liquid... or Sheets on towels.. .Instead, I use baking soda in all my wash loads.. It helps the laundry detergent work harder so I use only half the amount of detergent.. It also deodorizes and freshens w/o chemicals or a harsh scent... It's good for those with sensitive skin and it makes towels softer/fluffy.... It's also really, really cheap and easy to find. .It's also a good use for expired boxes instead of throwing them away !

I never use fabric softener and have not for years. It does cut down on the absorbancy, and is really a form of soft plastic which coats the fibers.

If you would like to have softer towels without fabric softener, give your towels an extra rinse. You will be surprised.
I think we all use too much soap for our towels. They can't rinse properly because we usually overload them. Don't put hand towels, wash cloths, kitchen towels, in with bath towels. They may need more care than bath towels.

That's good advice. Fabric softener will reduce their absorbancy.

Yup. It does make them less absorbent. You can get a set of two nubby balls at places like Meijer or Bed, Bath, and Beyond that you toss in the dryer with your clothes (towels) and that helps to make them softer. They DO work.

Yep- it's true. The same substance that makes clothes feel "soft" also repels water to some degree. Therefore, it makes the towels less absorbant.

If you wipe spilled water off of a counter top with a dish towel and water remains --- that towel was washed with a fabric softner.
