Hello all --

I believe I ovulated sometime last week. I got a positive OPK (using CLearBlue Easy Digital smiley face) on Wed., Sept. 5. We had sex the Sunday before that (Sept. 2), Wed., and also on Thurs., Sept. 6. I also experienced my usual ovulation dull pains/cramps on Thursday. I assume that Wed and Thurs would have been my two most fertile days.

My periods and ovulation are very regular, so no probs in that regard.

Here are my questions:

1. Do you think I have a good shot at getting pregnant this month?

2. Aren't ovulation pains a sign that the egg release is happening or imminent?

I'm looking for some hope here -- wondering if we did it right this month. I believe I'm currently 6-7 dpo. Thanks so much!

Since you got the pos on the 5th then you most likely O'd about 36hours later--late on the 6th or early on the 7th. It sounds like you had well-timed intercourse so I would say your chances are good, around 20%.
Ovulatory pain, mittelschmerz, is caused by the stretching of the ovary and follicle before ovulation and also at the point the egg is released from the follicle. So when you start feeling crampiness you are probably ovulating.

I also get these pains every month and have a regular cycle. I also use to think these pains meant the egg was being released, but that is not true. I mean you and i both know something is going on but that is not the exact time it happens. I found out by charting my bbt and i don't really ovulate until about 4 days after getting these pains. and i'm on day 3 of these pains.

I would say doing it wed. and Thurs. was a good idea but hopefully you continued for at least 5 days after. per my dr. she says from the first + or smiley face you should continue 5-7 days after for best conception time. This can be every other day too.

Hope this helps and good luck, remember not everyone body is the same so your egg really could have been released during this time. The best way to know is if you temps went up.

Ovulation pain does happen around the time of ovulation. Typically it occurs when the egg is released however I have it for 3-4 days every month. I feel the entire process from the time my ovaries swell to prepare all the way to the release. When I was ttc I tried to have sex as much as possible during that 3-4 days.

As far as your chance this month, no one knows. It sounds like your timing was good. Everyone is different and not every month will be the month. You should know in another week or so though.

Good luck!!

Ovulation is a phase of the female menstrual cycle, which involves the release of an egg (ovum) from one of the ovaries. For most women, ovulation occurs about once every month until menopause, apart from episodes of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

About one in five women experience pain and discomfort during ovulation. The duration of the pain varies from one woman to the next, but ranges from a few minutes to 48 hours. In most cases, ovulation pain doesn’t mean that anything is wrong. However, severe pain may sometimes be symptomatic of gynaecological conditions including endometriosis. See your doctor if your ovulation pain lasts longer than three days or is associated with other unusual menstrual symptoms, such as heavy bleeding. Ovulation pain is also known as mid-cycle pain and mittelschmerz (German for ‘middle pain’).

Symptoms
The symptoms of ovulation pain can include:

Pain in the lower abdomen, just inside the hip bone.
The pain typically occurs about two weeks before the menstrual period is due.
The pain is felt on the right or left side, depending on which ovary is releasing an egg.
The pain may switch from one side to the other from one cycle to the next, or remain on one side for a few cycles.
The pain sensation varies between individuals - for example, it could feel like uncomfortable pressure, twinges, sharp pains or cramps.
The duration of pain ranges anywhere from minutes to 48 hours
