I just moved to Texas better jobs than in Seattle. I have to pay 8 tolls a day just for work and more for personal trips, I buy a house but taxes are crazy high 3 times what they are in other places easily and usually you get tax assessed at least 100K more than the real worth by far which means 200 or 300 more a month in taxes. Fees for police tickets just raised $100 across the board and the police have a reputation for abusive behavior I hear. Other states charge less and offer the same services and roadways etc...

So there is some background, here is my question again.
What am I paying for, why do I need to pay the state government $1000 a month if I want a house, or even a couple hundred if I want to rent. Where is all this money going??? I wish the comproller would answer, I would like to know if she feels she is a crook?

This has nothing to do with America as a whole, please read the question. This has to do with Texas only!!! Try not to make assumptions without first seeing what someone is saying...can you read?

I have lived in places with income tax, the income tax plus others does not add up to nearly as high as a home owner here pays with others. But Doc you might be very right, I wasn't thinking about that. I did go to pick up a rental car in Dallas last week while mine was in the shop outside about 100+ hispanics where standing in a shopping plaza, just standing there. Might have been looking for work.

I am a residential loan officer, I can easily verify these statistics I have performed numerous title/tax searches on properties I know personally and other I am interested in. I am seeking some sort of tax exemption in buying a home like agricultural which a relative of mine has and loves it for a hobby.

Just to add we also have the highest insurance cost in the nation. We are keeping our out of state insurance because it is almost double to switch the same cars to the same insurance carrier to Texas.

Bob,

He doesn't hate America, he just hates being gouged by government. Don't waste time trying to convince us you enjoy paying taxes.

Mobus,

Am I not correct that Texas does not have an income tax?

Anyway, all states overcharge its citizens for the services they allegedly provide, Texas is no different.

Perhaps if Texicans quit hiring illegal immigrants, taxes could go down. They don't think about the added tax burden they have to pay to finance the education if the children of illegals, or the cost of medical treatment that the taxpayer bears, nor the high cost of keeping them in jails when they commit crimes and get caught. All they can see is that they can hire someone to work hard and work cheap.

As for the toll road problem, leave home a bit earlier and don't drive on the toll roads. If there is an alternative route, I refuse to drive on toll roads.

Texas is not alone in really ripping people of on traffic tickets. I've heard that my home state of Alabama charges a minimum or $200.00 for traffic tickets issued by State Troopers, and that local fines are not much better. But that is hearsay, I've never had a ticket in Alabama. The solution is not to speed excessively. Unless the cop is in a really crappy mood, they generally don't give tickets for less than 5 mph over the limit. So don't drive more than 5 mph over the limit and 80% of the time you will be OK.

Doc

If you hate America so much, why not leave? There is nothing keeping you in your current location.

Rather than moan and gripe, do something. Either leave or shut up..seems simple to me

Evil, evil America how bad we are.
