let me explain this wit a suitable example....

for ex:- u have crossed ur 16yrs and now u r on 17running age...
it is the way ppl say if they cross 16 then they say that 17is their running.....

same way we have crossed 20th century and enter 21st century!!!

When you count, you start with "one". So if today starts day one, year one, 100 years from today would end the 1st century and start the 2nd... so day one, 101 starts the 2nd century.
In this fashion, 2001 starts the 21st century.

There is NO year zero...We go from 1 BC to 1 AD.

Because the first century was from 1 A.D. to 100 A.D.

As a side note - thois means that the new Millenium was not in 2000, but rather 2001.

Because the year 0A.D wasn't the 0th century, it was the 1st, century! So there for 2000 was the mark for the 21st century!

the centuries started from 0 that is why 1900 was 20th and now 2000 is 21st

same reason 1987 was the 20th century, 1876 was the 19th century and so on.
The years 0-100 would have been the 1st century. 101-200 were the 2nd century and so on.

but we call it -a date
we are not waiting up to midnight to call the date
so the begining only gives the name
2001 started - so we called twenty first century

Because the first century started with 0. If you were 21 years old you would be in your 22nd year.
