I was on it for four years and I would stay AWAY from the shot!
TOO many women have too many serious health risks and side affects because of this shot.
Google "depo provera lawsuit" and check out its reviews on http://www.rateitall.com/t-330-birth-control-methods.aspx before you really think about getting this shot.

I was on the Depo shot for 2 years. In that time I never had a period, which was wonderful! But I gained 80 lbs, even though I was very active in exercising and eating normally. Now my body is all out of whack, and my thyroid is off and its very hard to lose weight. It was very convenient but not worth the side effects. I'd stick with pills or I hear the Nuvaring works well too.

I was on depo for about 7 years and loved it!
I have horrible cramps - it took 2 shots but my periods finally stopped.
Depo is also not affected by antibiotics (they way the pill is). So if you get sick you don't have to use a back up method.
I did not have any more side effects from depo than I did on the pill. Weight gain was not worse etc.
I'm on the pill now - but I do not take the dummy pills (so I still don't have periods). I made the change to the pill for financial reasons (my health ins did not cover bc and pills were cheaper out of pocket for me).
Depo - Love it - worth talking to your dr about.

Used to take it - loved it. My periods stopped completely, so did most other women who took the shot. The only problem was weight gain and constant b**tchiness - kinda like you're PMSing every single day.
