Please dont diet whilst pregnant. Its inevitable that you will be put on weight during pregnancy, but dont be fooled into thinking youre getting fatter, as your body will retain more water - so even if you think youre getting fat, youre not. Its just excess water, and this drops off a couple of weeks after birth.
Also, breastfeeding helps you lose weight around the stomach and helps you back into shape.
Eat what you normally eat, along with plenty of fruits and vegetables. Just eat what you want to eat, but have a varied and balanced diet. If you want to have a McDonalds, have one, but say only once every 2 weeks or something.
Your body will tell you what you need to eat, and you will crave things youre lacking.
I recommend you should also stay active during pregnancy, and keep walking about - even if its just cooking or cleaning the house. You need to get plenty of exercise, and ive been told the more active you are during pregnancy, the easier labour will be.
Just go with the flow!

The average female needs about 2,000 calories a day to maintain her weight. A pregnant female only needs approximately 300 extra calories per day. You should eat a lot of vegetables, some fruit, extra protein, extra dairy products, and some whole grains. Most prepared foods have the calorie content on the package. Be sure to look at how many calories come from fat as well. It shouldn't be more than 30% of the total calories per serving. Try not to get caught up eating too many Lean Cuisine, Healthy Choice, etc. microwave meals because, while they are low in calories and fat, they have a sodium content which will cause you to retain extra water. Basically just eat a healthy, balanced diet.

Eat things that will be healthy for you whether or not you are pregnant. Like veggies, fruit, and low fat snacks. Drink low fat milk and low calorie juices instead of soda. Make sure you take a prenatal vitamin and go see your doctor often. A lot of women go crazy when they get pregnant and eat everything. Just eat like you would normally, just a little healthier.

everyone is different, I ate healthy foods during pregnancy but as I gave up smoking at 8 months I gained a lot of weight, 4 stone to be exact and never lost it, my daughter gained a few stone during pregnancy and lost it instantly but after her 2nd pregnancy when she gained mainly baby weight she has still a small amount to loose, so we are all different.

the real key is to not go crazy right after you have the baby. as long as you are eating healthy and getting a bit of exercise you should be great. just don't pig out after you have him/her. i made that mistake :(
