today i went out riding my scooter on a country road for about 40 miles (scarborough to whitby then back) at first i was going about 35mph on my way to whitby, i wasnt comfortable doing anything over since i am new to scooting. on the way back i was going at about 40mph, is this too slow. Loads of cars where piling up behind me and overtaking me on the way back and when they overtook me i got a few funny looks. Is 40mph too slow on a country road, bearing in mind that i have an old 1986, 125cc honda scooter??? or is 50mph acceptable and is it worth riding at 50mph on a scoot without loosing control of the scoot

When riding on a public highway, you should maintain a speed similar to the other vehicles you are sharing the road with. If, in fact "Loads of cars were piling up behind" then you were going too slow. If you continue to do this, you may be responsible for causing someone else to have an accident!

If you can't maintain a speed equal to the other vehicles on the road (somewhere near the posted limit) then at the least, you should pull over every so often and allow those cars behind you to pass safely.

are these roads twisty or have gentle sweepers? it makes a big difference. in this state, no country road has a speed limit of 60. and i have yet to see any country road in any state with a 60 mph speed limit. in ohio, that would be almost suicidal. what is the speed limit for the road? i'd say +/- 5 mph from posted limit weather permitting.

there is a couple of sayings: ride like u own the road, and 1 day the road will own u. the other is, never ride faster than where ur brain was 5 seconds before. ur on a 2 wheeler, not a 4 wheeler. they wont go down from hitting gravel in a turn....but u will. u need to remember another saying.......ride ur own ride. u ride in ur comfort zone, not at a speed others think u should be at. this is how squids get killed.

i have a few 'countermeasures' for tailgating morons. i've used old spark plugs, medium sized nuts, small bolts, and marbles. cagers that ride too close to me sometimes wind up with a jettisoned marble bouncing off the glass, or a bouncing nut clattering under the cage. it might take a couple of em, but they soon get the message. i know a guy at work prefers something a little bigger....golf balls. he says they do a nice bounce before smacking the glass.

Depending on the speed limit, 40 is very slow. Your Honda should be capable of going 55, but as others have mentioned, you need to ride in your comfort zone. You can think about finding another route, but I suggest that you also learn to pull over every now and then and let the faster traffic pass. No sense pissing people off.

i'd surprisingly recomend you are trying this with a 400cc or greater scooter. this type you would be waiting to commute accurately on all roads. It you're taking a 49cc scooter you will ought to take minor roads through fact the interstates do no longer enable autos that don't meet minimum velocity standards. The minimum velocity varies yet is in no way decrease than 40mph. through fact the quickest 49cc scooter is regulated to 38mph that would possibly in no way do. there are quite a few risk-free practices concerns. I went on a 5 day bicycle back in 1984 whilst i grew to become into in intense college. back then the cost decrease grew to become into 55mph and drivers paid interest. on the instant, speeds are greater yet there are 2 considerable concerns. all of us is distracted by ability of texting and cellular telephones and human beings for the main area now no longer supply an entire lane whilst passing. In Kansas any time you commute heavily slower than the bypass you're by ability of regulation predicted to stay as far to the recommendations-blowing as achievable. you will would desire to study the guidelines of each and every state you intend on passing by using. You in no way understand what loopy rules states have. And guranteed the police will cost ticket regardless of how lame the regulation is. you are able to nicely be obligated to place a triangle on the back indicating which you're a sluggish moving automobile. one in each and every of those holiday would look painful to me. yet, I choose you the perfect of excellent fortune. truly, get a Suzuki Burgman.

you ride at the speed that you are comfortable with don't be pressurise into going faster for the sake of other road users i would have thought that 40 was OK ,country roads are full of hazards if when on a straight bit of road its clear and you feel OK to do so,step it up , its not about hooning around like a nutters leave that to the racers, good on you for getting out there enjoy the freedom and don't let others put you off. go for it..

okay, if there's a long queue behind you pull over if there is a safe place, or ride close to the side of the road to make sure everyone who want to overtake can. So the answer is, it's not how fast you ride, it's how you ride.

The speed limit is 60mph on most country roads. This is why you would have got people overtaking you. I would over take somebody going at 59mph (if its safe). Just go at your own speed and the cars behind can sort themselves out.

go what ever speed you want too unless it is like under 30mph as you can get done for going too slow. dont let impatient drivers spoil your fun.

country roads are dangerous as it is and for a car going 60mph and can be hazardous.

whats the top speed of your scooter? I would stick between 40-50 mph.
