How time flies! The family was in front of the TV set (a big box with a round screen and control knobs). Little did we know that we were in the presence of an historic event of modern music on the Ed Sullivan Show. If my memory does not fail me from 51 years ago, it was in September of 1956 and I didn't even know who Elvis was until then. Now, every time I hear about that first TV presentation of the King I feel so thrilled because I saw it .
My dad didn't seem to like my mom's attitude and praises for the rock singer. There seems to have been an incipient lovers' quarrel triggered by the new, handsome American artist. It always happens: new styles and trends in fashion and music stir society in different ways.

Yes. We all gathered around the TV and Ed Sullivan kept putting him off so we were all glued to the TV, and finally, He came on. It was kinda sad because they wouldn't let him really shake as much as he normally did.
I saw him in person when I was a teenager and everyone screamed so loud, you could not hear him singing. He kept asking the people to please be quiet or he would be banned from ever performing in our city again. Sure enough, he was banned. He sure started a new era. Look at what they show now. Brittany Spears dancing as an example. Wonder where the "census police" are now.

Yes....I remember. Back then I couldn't understand what the big deal was. I always thought his shaking up was rather lame....and I still do. I liked his early recording but his later music was just commercial crap. His 1st movie "Love Me Tender" was good but the rest of his movies were junk. Too bad he turned down the male lead in "A Star Is Born" with Barbra Striesand, who wanted him as her first choice. But he wanted star billing and it was HER movie. He might still be alive if he had taken the part. Unfortunate.

Yes. Contrary to the conventional wisdom he first appeared on the Steve Allen show on NBC, although the appearance on CBS's Ed Sullivan Show seems to have gotten the historical credit.
