I think negative. I have seen the movie many times and although it is entertaining I am not sure it is very accurate. The character 'Crocodile Dundee' just reinforced a great number of sterotypical charactizations about Australians. Australian people I have encountered are not all living in the back bush. However, they did elude to the fact that this Crocodile Dundee person was exaggerating to impress the New York reporter to win her favor. It was an underlying message that I believe most viewers missed. The message taken from the film was one that fueled the perpetuation of the stereotypes already in place about Australia and it's peoples.

I thought it gave Australians a positive portrayal. If they are like Dundee, they are intelligent, brave, quick witted and have a keen sense of humor! If other people would follow these traits, this world would be a more joyous place!

Positive Australians are mainly thought of as beer swilling nomads who eat kangaroos. IIf you tried to change that idea the film would been s**t and millions of tourists wouldn't go to your country on holiday.
