If I wore every ribbon for every cause I support I would not need clothes. When did this practice start, and how can we stop it?

I'm not wearing a ribbon. It has gotten out of hand. It shows a lack of imagination and creativity. With some many ribbons, the message gets lost because who is going to remember after a while which ribbon stands for what cause? It's like too much advertising. You get clutter and no one remembers those that were not able to break through the clutter.

The first time I saw a ribbon of support was on the Academy Awards show some years ago. It was the red ones for AIDS research. I support a lot of groups but I only have one support ribbon--the puzzle piece with a ribbon to support families with Autism. (I have an autistic child.) But, I never wear it. I don't believe that one needs to wear anything special to show their support for groups. Just being a part is enough, but I don't see a need to abolish the wearing of ribbons if it helps people feel that they are contributing to their community, etc.

Not sure when it started--but seems to me it was associated with AIDS.

We can't do anything to stop it, other than doing what I do: Not ever ever wearing one or displaying it on my car!

Don't wear one! That's the easiest way to stop it.
