Well, I am Jewish so we don't put them up but it seems like the families who do take them down just after new year. I can't believe someone leaving them up until now and will be putting them back up in like 8 weeks?! What was the point of that? LOL LOL

That's just lazy.
I usually take things down a few days after New Years day.
The Only exception should be if you celebrate 3 Kings Day. (on January 6th), Then I would say by January 15th the latest.

I put out a ton of lights that take about 2 months to set up. I do not start taking down until Jan 1st (as I display up until the 30th). But, it takes me two-three solid weekends to take down everything and even longer to get it packed up and stored.
I try to have everything down by MLK day and packed by stored by Groundhog day.
