Philippines were just struck by dry spell during july until early august and now I've been hearing that La Nina might soon arrive in the country. Will there be an occurring La Nina episode this year? And what will be it's effect in the pacific and in the atlantic ocean?

I've also read on BBC weather that La Nina will cause wet areas to be wetter and drier areas to experience drought. If it's going to further develop for the next 3 months, which is December which is the start of the dry season then Philippines will experience drier weather?

"La Niña conditions will further develop during the next 3 months. "

This was the synopsis from the climate prediction center discussion of 9/6/07.

A lot of information may be found from their web pages at:

www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov

La Niña conditions are not a storm, but a shift in sea surface temperatures and pressure/wind patterns across the equatorial region of the pacific. This does not create storms or rain. It is only an observed set of conditions. But, when these conditions have been observed in the past, there have been shifts in weather patterns that give some indication of what sort of weather may be expected in some areas over the next year or until the observations change in the other direction.

In the case of the Philippines Islands, this shift will likely cause more rain next summer. In the case of the Atlantic basin, most forecasters are looking at decreased tropical activity next year (2008 hurricane season). However, this is dependent on the continued observation of strong La Niña conditions continuing through this winter season. No one will say too much about this until more observations determine the strength and duration of the La Niña conditions.

It is arriving as we speak, as for the Pacific, the Pacific Northwest is expecting cooler and wetter conditions this winter.

this is not person-friendly for any Meteorologist to assert what is going to take place this wintry climate on account that no person knows why those activities take place. on account that El Nino has been occuring greater generic (each and every 3-4 years) i visit assert El Nino will dominate.
