Might need more RAM. Or your hard drive is just getting old. Have you tried disk defragmenter?

Hi, There are lots of reasons. Some are:
1) CPU not powerfull enough for the Operating system & programmes,
2) Low on RAM
3) Viruses
4) Hard drive fragmented or has a diffect
5) Some anti virus programmes can slow down the system a lot.
6) Too many porgrammes starting up at boot time or running in the background.
If it's freezing as well as taking a long time to startup then very likely the hard drive's got a problem and/or the system's got malware. Scan the hard drive surface using checkdsk if it's Windows 2000, XP or Vista.

Because that most software has automatically function. When you go to the system they would automatically run in the background. So you always use the software is more convenient. But it will also cause unnecessary troubles. There is so much software when you start your PC that the speed will slow down and they can impact of your normal use. We can tell you some simple methods to clear them.
Method 1 You can find start-up under options in settings and check close. It is difficult to close one by one, once automatic operation programs are too many.
Method 2 You can clean automatic operation programs by manual operation. They are in “run” option of the registry and start menu. Find and clean them.
Method 3 If you think the above two methods are not suitable for you. You only clean Start up by professional software. Of course, it is the simplest way. It invisibly saves a lot of energy and time. You can click the website http://superfixpc.com/ to find the satisfied software
I wish my solution could help you.
Personal experience
good luck!!

There could be several reasons, but the most obvious is that you have a virus. If this just started,I would go with the virus theory. The other reasons could be you have your temporary files full,in which you should empty your temporary files (or as some people call it ,your browser cache). The other problem could be that you do have enough Internet connection speed. Are you on Broad Band,DSL,or regular phone line?If you do not have a good ( Paid anti virus/anti spy suite) I would get one.If this is a recent problem, you can go to your system restorer and restore back to a date when you did not have this problem ( this will restore your settings ) but system restorer will not get rid of a virus or spy ware. The free space on your hard drive can also effect the performance. There can be more things causing your problems, but not having your computer here in front of me, it is hard to diagnose.Bottom line is I think you have a virus. Also, contrary to what some people will tell you, cookies are not the cause, they are harmless.

if the hard drive is nearly full, it will have trouble picking up and putting back pieces of data located on it.
try deleting unwanted programs, clear out your old e-mail empty your Internet cache
next, go to start in the run box, type msconfig and go to the start up tab. disable by removing ticks, any items that you don't want to start when you start your machine - theses things take time to load and consume memory - which brings me on to the next little test
from the desktop, hold down control, alt and delete
in task manager, go to the processes tab and sort the list by memory use. check what is using huge chunks of memory and stop them!
that little lot should keep you busy for a while
Good luck

don't throw your computer away, send it to me!
before you get rid of it, like these people are suggestiing, try this:
click on start
then run
in the box that pops up type in msconfig then hit ok
in the box that pops up you'll see a bunch of tabs running across the top. choose the one that says "start-up"
here, you will see a list of programs with check marks next to them. Use your judgement and uncheck the ones you don't need. For instance, you want to keep stuff like virus scanners running. On most computers, that's about all i keep running.
when you are done, click ok. you will get a dialog asking you if you want to reboot. say yes. when it boots back up there will be another box pop up with a bunch of words in it and a box that needs to be checked, click on the little box, put a check mark in it then hit ok.
your computer will now be running MUCH faster. Enjoy!

More than likely you have a virus or Malware or a Trojan, and probably more than one from the sound of it.
This is caused by the sites you have been visiting especially Music, and kiddie sites, You need a good Virus Software, and Malware remover like Lavasofts Adaware-7
and Spybots Search and Destroy.
Get them from Google and there free.
You will probably need all 3 to clean it up.

depends ..........................
could be the age of your computer,
or
you probably have a lot of programmes or files on there that are slowing it down and conflicting with each other
(photos are usually big culprits of this)
or
it could be a virus you computer has picked up - do you have any anti-virus software??
I'd suggest doing a disk clean-up followed by a defrag
(both found in programmes>accessories>system tools - on the start menu of windows)

possibly do a scourge or spyware test. If a registry cleanser would not artwork, you are able to desire to attempt to do device restoration to a time till now the freezing started. This many times works for me.
