I would chose phoenix.
The weather is slightly milder in Las Vegas, but I think there is more of a varied economy in Phoenix, LV is all about gambling and gaming, but then, that seems to be a recession proof industry

I have lived in both Las Vegas and Phoenix. They are both great cities, but Phoenix I would have to say has better and more job opportunities. Las Vegas does have cooler winters. Also, do not move there if you're a gambler. If you do move to Vegas, avoid North Las Vegas totally unless you have an armored vehicle with a bulletproof vest to wear. The same can be said for the south side of Phoenix, where the crime rate is extraordinarily high. The Summerlin area of Las Vegas is extremely nice, along with Scottsdale, AZ. Take care and good luck!

I moved to Phoenix from NJ 12 years ago. I visit Las Vegas a few times a year but I would never want to live there. Overall, Phoenix has a much more "normal" economy with job opportunities in a variety of industries while if it wasn't for the casinos and tourism Las Vegas would be a complete dump!

I have been to both. I was in Phoenix for 6 months. its a nice town. hotter then hell in the summer but nice none the less. I went out to Vegas for a work trip that lasted a week. I think I slept 5 or 6 hours the entire week. If you want to keep your job go to Phoenix. lol. Although I had an unbelievable time in Vegas. It was a man-whores dream.

Both have their Pros and Cons. Both cities are "decentralized" meaning traffic moves every direction. I think the traffic in Phoenix is a bit less hectic.
Can't speak about the Vegas government, but I think Phoenix has a good city government, and provides excellent city services.
Transportation wise, I think both city airports are on about the same par (number of airlines, flights, etc.) but keep in mind that Vegas airport I'm sure has more out of town visitors during the entire year. Here in Phoenix, we just have to deal with out of town visitors (at the airport) December to March. Both airports are major hubs for Southwest and USAirways (formerly America West).

Anyway, move to phoenix. When you think Vegas, I'm sure you think the strip. Outside the strip the city is mostly ghetto. Phoenix has it's share of ghetto, but as a whole the city is much nicer. It has more culture too (i.e., arts, dance, etc.). I don't count the flashy strip shows as culture. Plus, Phoenix has pro sports games to attend if you're into sports, Vegas just has a lot of TV's showing sports games and crappy UNLV.

Phoenix. Las Vegas is interesting enough, and has pleasant suburbs, but nobody actually goes to "The Strip" - just the tourists. Phoenix is more of a standard city. The environment of both cities - desert, hot - is the same.

I would opt for Phoenix...actually, that's what my boyfriend and I are hoping for within the next 6 months...waiting through the whole recruiting process for Phoenix PD. Vegas isn't bad (we're actually going there in a few weeks) but it's a vacation spot...not someplace I'd actually want to settle down in and possibly raise a family. Phoenix is the fastest growing area in the country, plenty of opportunities (I am hoping to get my bachelors degree in the spring and want to further my education at ASU)...I've got friends there, my parents go frequently, all my professional sports are represented there and if I want to go to a casino...the reservation is nearby.

Vegas and Phoenix are both hot as hell. They are both in the Desert, but Vegas gets more wind and colder winters then Phoenix. If you are single, I would consider Vegas, but if you have family, Phoenix is a better choice. Vegas is nice by night, but ugly by day, too many transients, trash and drug attics there to.

Wow somewhat some comments. i could recommend in case you could to bypass to each and each place. I even have lived in Phx for over a decade and that i moved here from Indiana devoid of ever being here earlier. the suitable factor approximately Phx is the climate. you purely can beat it, constantly sunny and different than the few months of a hundred + temps the temperature is often advantageous. As others pronounced there are somewhat some places you could bypass to that are purely a pair hours away. Vegas is purely some 5 hr force and is great for holiday yet undecided if i could desire to stay there. It fairly relies upon on what you like. in case you desire night stay action then vegas is your place. in case you desire a greater relax place then come to phx. the two way you could bypass to each and each for some days.
