Generally you only have one ultrasound during pregnancy, at the 18-20 week mark. An early ultrasound like you had done is usually done to confirm the gestation and the due date, and isn't necessary when the date of the last normal menstrual period is known, and the cycle is usually regular. The 18-20 week ultrasound is the one most commonly performed, and if no complications are found at that one, and none subsequently develop, you don't need another one.

Usually you have an ultrasound in the first 12wks although this is optional (i didn't 2nd time around as I was 100% sure of my dates and they found the heartbeat on doppler) and then a 2nd one at 18-22wks depending where you are that is called a morphology scan and they do measurements and checks for downs, cleft lip etc...and this is when they can tell the sex also. Some doctors will send you for further scans along the way to check baby position for birth and size or if they have a concern.

Usually 2 scans is the average sometimes 3.

Just hang in there, you will be having another one in a month or so and possibly a 3rd once you are in the third trimester.

Best of luck

It depends on the pregnancy. If it is considered high risk then they will be performed more often. I am almost 9 weeks and I have had 2 performed so far. One at 4 weeks, and nothing could be seen. One performed a couple of days ago, and they found twins. I am considered high risk, just from carrying twins, so I will see my ob/gyn more often and have more ultrasounds performed. i am happy they will perform so many, I want to make sure they are ok.
If they deem it a normal pregnancy they do not perform as many ultrasounds. If they saw something they saw as wrong, they would let you know. Congratulations and god bless.

I found that in a pregnancy with no problems you may have two ultrasounds, one to date the pregnancy and see if it is viable around 6-10 weeks, then you have the big one at 18-22 weeks where the measure the baby and look at heart valves and kidneys and the liver and the spine and if there are two feet and two hands etc. If for some reason you are measuring big for dates they may do one closer to your due date to get a feel for the baby's weight and length, but it isn't common.
Hope the info helps. Good luck with your pregnancy.

usually your suppose to get your 1st ultrasound when you are between 11-14 weeks pregnant. 8 1/2 weeks is too early for a ultrasound and they only do those ones if they think something might be wrong.

You usually have the 1st scan, the dating scan, between around 8 - 12 weeks and then your next one isn't until around 18-22 weeks. This is the anomaly scan so the baby needs to be developed and big enough for the sonographer to be able to look at your baby in detail and to tell whether things are developing correctly.

Don't worry, you haven't missed anything.

You only usually have a scan apart from these times if a complication is suspected.

I have three children and I had one ultrascan with each of them. I knew the date of my last period, and my pregnancies were not high risk. Under normal circumstances a doctor will only do one ultrascan around 18-22 weeks. They measure the baby to make sure of the due date and will tell you the sex of the baby if you want to know.

If there is a high risk pregnancy, the doctor will do more ultrasounds as needed.

I'm from South Africa, here, if you can afford it or are on a medical aid, you go every 4 weeks. I had one at 6 weeks, 11 weeks and 17 weeks, I'm going for my fourth one at the end of the month. After 28 weeks I'll go every other week and in my last month I'll go every week. I know the scan at 22 weeks is very important because the doc will check if everything is normal with bub.

Normally just two ultrasounds. Once early on then again around 5-6 months.

I had 6 throughout the entire pregnancy. I had some complications. Usually you get 2-3.
