If you have access to a car there are many places in Colorado Springs worth visiting. The Garden of the Gods is breathtaking, a trip on the Pikes Peak Cog Railroad, a walk around Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs (the departure point for the aforementioned Cog Railroad, a visit to the Air Force Academy or any of the city's many parks or open spaces are just a few of the many things that you might consider. In addition to xjoisey's additions there's the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, Cheyenne Mtn. Zoo, The Flying W Ranch.

You should have more than enough to keep you busy for three days. Hope you enjoy it.

It will likely be chilly by next month, and I don't know what kind of transportation you will have during this time, but for some free activities you could try a walk around Garden of the Gods, or try any of the area parks, or perhaps some golfing at a local course. Alternately, we have two malls that are somewhat interesting -- Chapel Hills (which is closest to your hotel, if I remember correctly) and the Citadel.

I'm about out of ideas. I live here so I don't get an opportunity to "play tourist" very often.

You mention Hazards and wanting to get away from Earthquakes. Yes that link you showed does have an Earthquake "Hazard" area in Colorado. I've lived in Denver, CO Springs, and Boulder for over 20 years. I remember once may years ago we had an "Earthquake". They news did a huge article on how it shook one person's photo frame off the wall...and that was it. The biggest Hazards are weather related: Tornado, Hail, Flash Floods, Blizzards. Most of which can be prepared for and have rarely been a huge issue. I would say the snow is harder in the CO Springs area than it is in the north (Boulder, FT. Collins). I live in Boulder now and they always say we are in for the "100 Year Flood", but if you live a little outside of Boulder you can get away from the "flood path". Over all I haven't had any complaints living here.

I agree with MB. Also there's 7 Falls. The Cog railway to the top of Pikes Peak Will be breathtaking because the Aspens will be changing. Be sure to call for reservations. Pack for warm and cold weather Oct. has crazy weather .Bring cloths so you can dress in layers, it could be 30-40 in the early morning and 70-80 in the afternoon,
I forgot, there's also the Cave of the winds and The Cliff Dwellings and the US Olympic Training center

If your a runner, hiker or just like to get out on the trail...I suggest Waldo Canyon (Free), best views of Pikes Peak. The Garden of the Gods ( Free) is a city park that is also a great place for trails and the visitor center at the park has lots of maps and info on local places to visit. Cheyenne Canyon is another great place to hike and is also free and has Helen Hunt Falls.
Avoid Seven Falls...The Manitou Cliff Dwellings....The Royal Gorge...Ghost Town ...Their all tourist traps..unless you like to spend cash.
Make sure you hide all your valuables in your car, we have a big problem with car thieves.
