The place I miss, (In Lima Ohio), was "The Red Barn" They were like McDonald's, or Burger Chef, except their stacker was the, "Big Barney". And they had onion rings and hamburgers, too, etc.
Maybe Red Barn was just a local joint, but I still miss it.

Well, you are in luck. There is a place named Country Grill located in a "Red Barn" building. The person who bought it kept the recipes so I do believe that they serve the same menu that Red Barn did. If you can, check it out.

There are old pictures of the original Red Barn on the inside and the place hasn't changed much except for the name in decades.

I remember the Red Barn allong with Carrolls and A&W here in Canada all were here long before McDonalds, Burger King , Harvey's and Wendy's. I remember the local outlet had burgers and chicken and they got in trouble for the chicken, they would soak it in water to make the mold come off, the whole chain collapsed not long after the local one shut down.

I remember them. They had several restaurants in the Washington DC area.

One bit of trivia! In one of their advertising campaign their ads featured three puppets. They had Hamburger Hungry, Chicken Hungry and Fish Hungry, and they tag line was "When the Hungrys hit, hit the Red barn!

The puppets were developed by a student at the University of Maryland, who went on to bigger and better things, all involving a version of puppets! He called them Muppets, and was the one and only Jim Henson!

You can still spot the buildings they used because they look like (what else?) a barn. There's a coin laundry in one near where I live.

Red Barn was one of the orignal fast food franchises in north america. They had stores all over.

Unfortunately they got caught using horse meat in their hamburgers (less cost than beef) and the gov't made them fix it, but public stopped going to them and McDonalds fortunes in many towns increased.

SO the company died off from bad publicity and ppl not wanting to eat horse (europeans eat it fine but not NA ppl).

We had one in Milwaukee, WI. I don't recall if I've ever eaten there though.
