The key here is to plan ahead. You will have Bye weeks (4-10), and you have a VERY short bench. I AM assuming this is your entire bench. That means, when you have a Bye for your kicker, DEF, QB, or TE you will either have to drop your starter OR drop one of your short bench.
Fortunately for you, you have the following Byes:
QB Wk 5
DEF Wk 6
K Wk 7
TE Wk 8
If I were you, I would not drop anyone you are starting currently (although in some weeks, I would bench a couple.) So let's look at the Bench and Waivers.
Jordan -- Gotta keep this guy. (I would definitely start him in Week 3 vs Cleveland at home and bench Barber @Chicago).
Edwards -- I would drop him. He might come around, but his team is so bad, and with the trade of Frye, they will take awhile to get WRs & Qbs on the same page.
WW -- Randle El -- I think he is going to be huge for Washington this season, and Game 1 was a good indication of that. Replace Edwards with him.
WW -- Chris Brown. Why are you losing valuable time leaving this post & not picking up Brown!! What can Brown do for you?? Lots!
Fred Taylor -- Old. 16 yds in Game 1. I'm not a big fan of his at this point. Replace him with Chris Brown as fast as you can get to the Waiver Wire.
WW - Ward -- He will be a force for the Giants while Jacobs is out, and if he puts up numbers like in Week 1, Jacobs may not get the starting job back. Nevertheless, he is not a sure thing.
Driver -- Consistent year after year. A good plug-in when there is a bad matchup.
WW - Curry -- Too inconsistent from week to week to keep all season, but I love the Week 3 matchup vs Cleveland.
Betts -- Ho hum.
Reggie Brown -- Very solid year in 2006 -- over 800 yds + 8 TDs. Snooze of a start in Week 1.
Holmes -- 55 + TD in Week 1. Big Ben seems to "be back".
That boils down to this: Driver, Betts, Reg Brown, & Santonio Holmes
vs Derreck Ward & Curry.
1. If you are not going to play Ward before week 5, don't pick him up, unless you can bring yourself to drop a solid WR off your bench.
2. If you aren't going to play Curry in Week 3, don't pick him up.
3. The quality of your backup WRs is better than the quality of your backup RBs (currently). You only have two WR spots in your lineup every week. You don't need six WRs on your team.
4. Look at the Bye weeks.
RBs--
4 - Betts, Taylor, Chris Brown
5 - Jordan
8 - McGahee, Barber
9 - Jackson, Ward
Clearly you need two good RBs on the Bench to get into the lineup in Week 8. Jordan (@TEN) & Brown (vs Oak) are great here.
WRs --
4 - Randal El
5 - Reg Brown, Curry
6 - Holmes, Roy Williams
7 - Edwards, Driver
10- T.O.
No substitution problems here, no matter what way you go.
You MUST designite one guy as a rotating drop spot in Weeks 5-8 to accommodate your Byes for the QB, TE, K, & DEF. Given your glut of WRs, I think it will come down to Driver or Holmes, or Reg Brown.
Bottom line for today:
Drop Taylor & Edwards
Pick up Brown & Randal El
Consider dropping another bench player (NOT Jordan) to pick up Ward -- IF you are gonna play him. Even Betts could go if you think he is expendable.
Consider dropping the rotating spot a week early to pick up Curry for one week IF you are going to play Curry over Roy Williams (@PHI) in Week 3.
