Have you ever been anxious for a certain time in your life to be over?

I absolutely love the use of 'September' as a metaphor for the mourning period, don't you? Seems apt. I also love the lines, "drenched in my pain again/becoming who we are." Grief, and the way you respond to it, are such strong factors in shaping the person you will be forever after.

The only period in my life that I can remember really wanting to just "be over" is middle school ... But who doesn't. :) I'm just lucky that way, I guess.

The gradual subsiding of grief actually upsets me all over again. The first time I can think of that person and not cry, I'm upset about THAT. I know it has to be that way, that you have to move on, but there's a part of me that grieves that, as well.

The metaphor might be comparing the seasons with a lifetime: spring is childhood, summer is adulthood, fall is old age, and winter is death. The end of summer occurs near when "September ends", so that may refer to the end of normal adulthood. The bit about waking up may mean that he wants adulthood to pass him by, or that childhood and adulthood are a dream that one needs to be awoken from, or (as someone noted) it refers to his father's "fall", that he needs to be grounded in reality when his father got old enough. Or maybe his air conditioning doesn't work and he'd rather sleep through summer.

Yes. It is called by a 'friend' of mine: The geeky phase between birth and Death. Jokes. On the serious side, who doesn't? I can sing that song real well, and often as i sing it, I wish i was older as I have the occaisional Vision. The sight of me older either really successful, getting f***ed by a girl who currently hates me and having superpowers (the control of fire, Jedi telekinisus and control of all elements.) I feel that some of these are real, and thus people don't often see that of me. Thus the wish i was older
