At least Southern accents are lyrical. Having returned from a 5-day trip to New York and Boston, I can tell you that harsh, discordant accents seem to prevail. It's almost as if people up there go out of their way to make the language sound grating.

And while the backwoods, working-class Southern accent may make the speaker sound uneducated, a high Southern accent is really a thing of beauty.

This is going to be SUCH a big thumbs down answer... but I'm from NJ and even though I love Country music, I still think often a heavy southern accent makes even the most intelligent person sound kind of dumb. However, I used to go into an southern accent whenever I was making fun of something stupid and then I met this really nice guy from the south and I kept doing it without thinking & I wound up really insulting him!! I have since stopped doing that.... *blush*

I didn't know an accent could be annoying unless you are faking one. Then it sounds totally fake and weird

I'm from Louisiana and I love our Cajun accent. I'm sorry if you find it annoying. Good luck. 2D

What may be annoying to one could be music to another.

Don't judge people by what they are, judge them by what they do. :D
