Yep sadly this is normal. I did 2 tests and the doctor says they are more accurate than the hospital tests. I wanted conformation that what I was seeing was true. I had to wait a few more weeks to see the midwife and a few more for my first scan. Seeing that little thing on the screen made it feel more real. The next visit to the midwife, at 16 weeks, I was able to hear the heartbeat! Im waiting for my 22 wk scan in 2 weeks and will find out what im having. Im 5 months preg now and it still hasnt sunk in that im going to have a baby. At your first midwife visit, you will probably be there for a good hour, she will fill in forms and ask you loads of medical questions. Take a urine sample as they will test this for protein. I found it useful to take my boyfriend as the midwife will probably ask him medical questions too. Good luck x

If you've done 4 tests, then yes its normal for the doctor not to do one if they trust you are telling the truth.
You're first antenatal appt is more a routine thing, the midwife (assuming it'll be a midwife) will feel your tummy, check your wee, take blood pressure, weigh you and discuss gereral health things like diet, smoking, previous histories etc...
This is an easy appointment so relax, it'll be fine!
Due date seems spot on and today you would be 6wks 1 day pregnant.
You may be sent for a scan to confirm due date and health of baby and that is normally done on or before 12wks. The next scan is at 18-20wks and is called a 'morphology' ultrasound and they do little measurements and checks to make sure baby is doing okay. These are usually the only routine scans, others can come up along the way if the doctor feels the need to check the baby.

At this point though, eat well, keep exercising gently, get plenty of sleep and make sure you keep yourself relaxed and happy as this contributes to a happy and healthy baby and mummy!!

Congratulations and best of luck for a trouble free pregnancy!

congratulations hun!
yes its right, the home pregnancy tests that are used to today are as accurate as any test that a hospital lab would use. if you went to your gp or a chemsit for them to do a test they`d just use a home pregnancy test kit too.
assuming that your cycle is 28 days long & your last period was on 30/07 then your due date would be on or around 6th may 2008.
your gp should refer you to your local midwifery team. they`ll contact you & arrange to do a booking in visit. as for scans, this depends on where you live as it can vary alot. in my area we have a dating scan at about 12 weeks then a further anomoly scan at 20 weeks. your midwife will explain everything to you when you see her.
congratulations again & hope you have an uneventful 34 weeks!

Hi, that sounds pretty acurate.
My last period was 27.07.07, Due 02.05.08 and im 7 weeks on Friday! So im 6 weeks and 5days!
I did 6 tests (struggling to believe i was pregnant!!) and the doctor didnt even ask for a urine sample, he said a positive is a positive!
I have my first appointment with my midwife on monday, and they will contact you to arrange a date for a scan. dont worry! Everything is fine!
Good luck! Amy X

first of all congratulations. at your antenatel appointment they will tell you what to expect in the pregnancy and what you should do but most of all they will give you alot of info to read (well thats what mine was).they may give you an examination.you wont have to have a scan until at least 18 weeks or unless the doctors want an earlier one.hope this helps.
