Sometimes when I go a particular direction, there is this guy who stands on a curb at the light I stop at who has his dog with him. The guy holds the typical sign about will do something for food. I hand him a dollar but, not for himself...
I'm thinking that it can't be easy for the guy to feed that dog. So, I hand him the dollar and ask him, "get your dog some food also, ok?".

Now, I'm not so naive that I don't realize his ploy...to make us feel sorry for the dog which makes it easier for us to be charitable and give him some money....but, that's ok, long as the money goes toward getting the dog fed.

Only, if they look like they really need it.
I'm assuming you meant strangers that beg on the street, not the cashier where you buy stuff.

Every time I go up to the Licka' Stow I give my change to some guy that looks like his clothes have fused into his skin from dried sweat and god only knows what else...

Do I do my part...
