there was an old Indesit dishwasher in my house when I bought it. It is at least 5 years old as the 5 year guarantee ran out last month. The problem is, the timer doesn't seem to work. It has a dial with four settings, but unless you manually move it on, it sticks at certain points. Once, it kept churning away for a whole weekend. Very inconvenient. So I assume there's something wrong with the timer. My question is, do I take the risk of paying for an engineer to come and look at it and tell me I need a new timer which will doubtless be expensive, or just buy a new one for £200, and ditch the old one. I am trying to take into account the environment too!

I would buy an new one. This way you'll be able to keep it clean and get good service out of it.Plus you'll get a new guarantee! If you go to www.comet.co.uk and click on clearance auctions you can get some very good bargains here. They may have slight cosmetic damage. Check it out. I got mine off eBay and paid less than half price with a free 5 year guarantee and had trouble free dishwashing ever since. Good luck and I hope this helps. Have a nice day.

For me the question of repair or new on dishwashers is answered by one question. Will I have to unistall and reinstall to make repairs. if the answer is yes then a new one is going in. Parts for dishwashers are pricey. The home de pot and others have cheap ones around 150-200- these will last a few years giving you the time to manage the purchase a delux model.
ps. open the box at the store. find directions, determine size of fitting for water supply, buy one and a small rol of teflon tape.

Dishwashers are an invention the world could do without. Just as easy to wash dishes by hand.

I dont know anything about that brand, but I recommend going to http://appliancequickfix.com/ and take 5 minutes to review their information on dishwashers and see if you get a clue to your problem. It might be something simple or something beyond your expertise.
