I know what draconian and Pyrrhic refer too. I want other words you can think of that have a basis in history. Things like "scuttlebutt" and "cooties". I'm making up a presentation for the college world history class that I teach. Very smart people out there in cyberspace. What can you add?

How about wellington boots, from the Duke of Wellington's battle days?
Sandwich came into being from a hungry Lord Sandwich out in the field either hunting or in battle. (c/r which)
A balaclava, something knitted and put over the head for warmth, takes its name from the battle of Balaclava.
Our language is literally littered with historical cast offs....I just thought of these in a moment....there must be thousands more.
